October 7, 2005
By Yakima Herald Republic staff
Printed in the October 7, 2005 issue of Yakima Herald Republic.
In addition to the corn maze and the fall harvest funland, Schell's Produce in Union Gap is offering even more this year by sponsoring a book drive to benefit Page Ahead, a children's literacy program.
During October, Schell's Produce, 3209 Tacoma St., will be collecting donations of new children's books or money to buy books. These books will be distributed to Page Ahead sites in the Yakima Valley and the state. Eighteen Page Ahead sites in the Valley, from Cowiche to Grandview, serve about 7,800 children.
The program, started in 1990, provides new books and promotes reading activities for at-risk children throughout the state. Both corn mazes will accept new children's books throughout October. Bring a book Saturday, Oct. 29, between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. and receive a dollar off general admission for one person.
