SPOKANE, Wash. - In conjuction with the women's game the Gonzaga Student-Athletic Advisory Committee teamed up with Page Ahead for a book drive for children in the Spokane area. Fans donated more than 1,350 books to cause as a season-high crowd of 2,582 watched the Bulldogs win.

Gonzaga University Student-Athletes To Sponsor Book Drive

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Gonzaga University Student Athletic Advisory Committee is teaming up with Page Ahead to help promote child literacy in the Spokane area. This weekend the GU SAAC will be collecting new and like-new books prior to the Gonzaga women's basketball game against the University of Portland. Fans can bring a book to the event and receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win one of several prices including: tickets to the men's basketball game against Saint Mary's College and tickets to an upcoming women's game. Doors for this Sunday's game open at 1:30 p.m. with tip-off set for 3 p.m. Tickets are $7 for reserved seats, $5 for general admission and $3 for seniors over 65 and children under 12. Fans can purchase tickets in advance at any TicketsWest outlet or by calling McCarthey Athletic Center Box Office at (509) 323-6000.

The Bulldogs are currently 4-2 in the West Coast Conference and sit in second place in the WCC standings. Gonzaga is also 7-1 at home this year winning 11 straight WCC home contests. Sunday's game will be broadcast on KHQ and also available on KGA 1510 AM.

Founded in 1990, Page Ahead focuses on improving the reading and language skills of at-risk children thereby increasing their overall literacy levels. To date Page Ahead has distributed more than a million books to more than 360,000 children in need. Last season Gonzaga student-athletes collected more than 650 books for Page Ahead during the women's game against Loyola Marymount University.
