Bringing reading joy to everyone

For kids to connect meaningfully with reading, it needs to be fun and easy. In addition to Book Up Summer, Story Leaders, and Book Oasis, we also run the following programs.

Our Story Times, in preschool and kindergarten classes around the Puget Sound and Spokane, are provided by trained volunteers and include books, songs, and crafts. In 2024–25, volunteers provided 465 story times to 1,673 children at 28 schools. At the onset of the pandemic, we took Story Time virtual on our YouTube channel.

We host reading events with volunteers at greater Puget Sound schools. Students choose a new book, and volunteers read with the children and discuss their new books.

In 1990, we were founded under the name β€œBooks for Kids”—and we still have a program with that name, through which we distribute books to schools and organizations who also serve children who live in marginalized communities.
